Best Cars Of 2008 - The Most Economical
2008 saw every industry in America collapsing under a financial meltdown. However, this didn't stop the car manufacturing industry from rolling out some decent cars. However, an interesting trend to notice in this time period was that there was a transition from preferring expensive and powerful luxury cars to preferring economical cars that served utility. As such, the market saw a significant decrease in sales of gas guzzling cars. Hence, the list of best cars of 2008 was made keeping the above prospective in mind. Before we discuss them, let's divide them into three categories - large cars, midsize cars and small cars.
Large Cars: In the large car segment, Toyota Avalon bags the top spot with an overall rating of 9.2. Keeping the fuel consumption in mind, there is no other can matches it (28 miles on the highway and 19 miles in the city) and can cost anywhere between $28,000 - $35,000 which is fairly moderate. Another vehicle that deserves mention in this category is the Audi A4. This too provides similar mileage characteristics and comes at a price tag of approx. $28,000. However, with added specifications, it can become a little pricy.
Midsize Cars: When talking about reliability, Chevrolet Mailbu automatically becomes the obvious choice. Another option worth considering is Honda Accord (both the vehicles enjoy a rating of 9.2 and are very competitive) . In case of economy, Nissan Altima is the best 2008 car to go with. It gives a mileage of 23 miles in the city and 32 on the highway which is the best in the midsize category. Stylish interiors and a price tag of $18,500 further add to its advantage. The only visible disadvantage is an overly cramped backseat. Hyundai Sonata and Mazda 6 come close second to it.

Small Cars: Honda Fit easily takes the top spot in this segment. It comes with a price tag of $14,000 and can give a mileage of 34 on the highways and 28 in the city thus easily making it the most fuel efficient car available in the market. Honda Civic comes close second and loses only by a small margin. If we keep the overall costs in mind, there isn't any other that can beat this one. Fit too has been rated with 9.2/10 and hence can be completely trusted. However, on the downside, it lacks comfort and does not support many features. If these matter, opt for Civic but it is a bit highly priced.
Many other cars were rolled out in the same year. Some of them came very close to bagging the top spot but lost out on some front or the other. If one surpassed the others in comfort, it lagged mileage or was too expensive to be categorized as economical. Nevertheless, had it not been for the recession, car manufacturers were sure to do a lot more business than what they actually ended up doing. It can easily be understood by the fact that as the market comes back alive; some of these cars are still in demand and under production.
